I took many pictures of my little dog today, and she was so bored that she would insulted me if she could speak.

Dark room, only a 500W lamp near the dog.

Although this is an advanced editing challenge, I didn't touch the picture too much, just burned the dark zones to give strenght to the blacks, resized it and sharpen.

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: Very nice focus and great depth of field use. The crisp focus on the dog's eye is very right for this photograph.

Lighting: Your lighting is just a touch too harsh. The overexposed area on his left cheek is significantly distracting and surely detracted from the overall score. In an advanced editing challenge, I try to expose for the highlights, as burning out light areas that I want dark is fairly easy to do. I do find the side lighting very appealing and the shadows your created very interesting.

Composition/Content: Great doggie expression, and the dog's position leads the viewer deep into the photograph. I agree with ShutterPug in that I would also like to see the rest of the dog's snoot and paw. With this crop, everything feels tense and crowded.

My Opinion: I think you met the challenge very well and very creatively. With some slight lighting and cropping changes, this one surely would have scored a good deal higher.

Funny. Too bad there is some strong overexposure on the right side.

I like it, but I think the shadow fall off is a bit too dramatic.

The angle the light is hitting the subject just does not work well for me. I would like to see a bit more of the face not so shadowed, as well as the mouth and front paws not cropped off.

I don't usually react well to pet shots. But this guy obviously has character.
