I hope this smashes my first entry into DPC. It probably won't ribbon, but anything is better than that meager 4.6.

The setup was fairly simple. Taped the ribbons inside the shell and the other end was taped to a stick. poked my wife's hand thru a hole and had her hold the shell. The light source was a clamp light with a snoot to direct it down the ribbons into her hand. Then while exposure I moved the stick to blur the ribbons.

Post Processing included:
Crop
Noise ninja
Levels
Brightness/contrast,
hue/sat while masking off the hands and shell

Well lets see if I got redemtion!

Welcome from the Critique club. I have reviewed your photo and have some comments. FIrst let me tell you I love the idea that you came up with. The execution on the rainbow is very cool. Very imaginative way to get the rainbow. The back ground being varied color really hurt your score I think. Its very nice and black in sections but turns blue in the area around your focal point. SInce advanced editing was available selecting the background and getting it all dark enough that it doesnt blend colors would have been very beneficial. ALso I think maybe cloning in the colors back over the hand where the rainbow loses its coloring would have helped. I love the idea you have here and execution was pretty good. I'd say scoring about where I would expect with the small flaws in the shot.

i like it a lot...next time use black cloth...the blue "towel?" is distracting. great job.

Love the creativity - something new and refreshing. I wish the background were darker so that I could not see where your hands are coming from.I would love to know how you made the rainbow that appears to come out of the shell.

Hmmmm... I'm guessing you were going for the rainbow to appear to come out of the shell... but it just doesn't do it for me.
