Once again I used myself as the model, what can I say I take directions really well and understand what the photographer wants. I used the camera on remote and tripod. Setup with flood lamp for painting, put it in shelving unit in the garage and then closed the doors most of the way to block the light from making the garage all lit up. converted raw, some burning and dodging of smoke, selective color, and curves masked on to the smoke to brighten. NI save for web and crop.

I like this the smoke looks like a little breakdancer standing on his arm and leg.

Greetings from the Critique Club! :)

This is certainly a well-done image, with a great score and placement in the challenge results. I think you did a good job in directing yourself. ;) Technically, all the important stuff has been covered...composition, clarity, focus, color, lighting...though I might like it filling the frame a bit more, but that's just me. I am a little distracted by your right earlobe...the bright spot there in an otherwise-dark part of the image does tend to pull the eye away. Other than that, I think you placed where I would have scored you and I am impressed with your image.

Keep shooting and let me know if you have any questions! :)

Take care,
Laurie

Guess I shouldn't have given you that high score, eh? No, wait, even changing it to a 1 wouldn't have let me beat you ;) Truthfully, I think this should have place higher!

Great job. I made my husband smoke two cigars in the garage while trying to get a similar shot...didn't get the pic but he did get a stomach ache! Great lighting - the smoke looks clean and I like the crop. Good luck.

I like the idea, I even thought about posting something similar. The lighting is really good but I am not very fond of the composition. I think you should have made him tilt his head downwards a little or include more of his forehead. Something is not working for me here. 6

Evocative ... of my father, lighting his face on fire, a chronic smoker... lit up with the (enevaible) oxygen supply ...
