Critique Club Comment
Initial thoughts: Wow, I'm not nearly qualified to critique your work! I think I've given you tens on most all your last entries... (however, I didn't vote in this challenge) but I definitely think that this one is one of my favorites
Visual appeal: absolutely yes
Subject & background: You've managed to get very nice smooth skin tones and a blanket texture that you can feel by just looking at the photo. I do wish that the monster was thicker in appearance and also a little sharper, for some reason, the left side (its right) arm seems a little thin. Also, there's a shadow above the blanket on the righthand side that's a bit distracting and maybe if the subject's hands were clenched to the blanket or something, instead of laying loosely in front, you might have been able to squeeze some more emotion into this photo, but overall, I think that these are all very minor details
Angle, framing & composition: I think you did a great job here. I like how the monster's shadow blends into the top of the photo, I like the placement of the subject and the angle from which you shot. The only thing I'd say, again, is to have had the subject's hands closer to themself and away from the bottom crop-line
Focus, clarity & DOF: The focus is crisp and clean and right where it needs to be, again, maybe a clearer (sharper) shadow
Lighting & exposure: your lighting is fantastic, maybe a little less harsh on the subject's face could have made the lightsource seem a little more realistic, but the lighting is all where it should be and the exposure looks spot on to me, I also like how the monster's lightsource and the subject's lightsource seem very distinct from each other, besides the obvious separation, I can't quite tell what puts them apart, but I like it (maybe softness)
Post processing: looks great to me, no errors that I can see... maybe since this was advanced editing, it might not have been considered a major element to clone out that small shadow between the blanket and the monster on the righthand side, don't quote me on it though, lol
Overall, my opinion: I think you did an excellent job, I had an idea like this for the challenge, but I could have never executed it nearly as beautiful as you did, congratulations on yet another well executed photo

This was my pic for spoiling my shot at a ribbon in this challenge. Your shots are great at story telling and showing little slices of life, you are on my highest rated photographers list and one with one with the most challenge entries I have voted on which to me shows your constant excellence in challenges. Your one of the photographers I can pick out your shots out of masses on a consistent basis. Glad to have you here on DPC to enjoy your photos. |

Really wonderful use of lighting - I love how the tiny pool of light picks out the eyes and just paints a glow on the beautiful young skin. And I love the concept itself. Composition is just right and even the details such as the texture in the blanket and it's positioning too are spot on. Love it! |

Easy to overlook this subtle rendition. But it is really very good and something anyone from any culture can relate to. The lighting is excellent. The only flaw, IMO, is the strange face-profile-like shadow on the lower right of the wall where the blanket is. Glad I reviewed this photo otherwise I might well have missed its quality. Your quality control is very good. |

I like it a lot.
I just think it would be lots better if the face looked scared.
As it is, it almost seems to be smiling? |
