Hi Jennifer
Greetings from the Critique Club.
This is an excellent entry for the Bokeh Challenge. You have shown excellent technique and a good choice of DOF and Lens.
The challenge is hard as it requires finding Bokeh to compliment the main subject which you have done perfectly. The Exposure and colors are also spot on.
The overall score is fairly dissapointing, I think mainly because the bird appears slightly out of focus. Voters can be very unforgiving on this point. I suspect as Ozerion mentions that some softness has crept in through re-sizing for the challenge. It is also very useful to get a catch light in the eyes of the subject if possible, as these are the centre of attention they need to have interest.
Regards
Chris |

I like where the bird is positioned in this photo. |

The background has some nice patterns, shapes and muted colours however I feel that it needs to be softened a bit (less DOF) so the bird stands out more. That being said, red, being a strong colour, helps draw the viewer to your subject. |

I think it's a male (young) rose-breasted grosbeak actually, but I could be wrong! great capture!!! The bokeh - background is almost too skewed to add to the shot - it seems kaleidoscope-ish, psychadelic, and kind of detracts from the bird/wire subject. Perhaps a closer crop would eliminate that distraction? |

Wow!! I feel as though it may be a male Purple Finch, though ;) Beautiful bird! I wish the light was more even over his body, especially his head- but thats the trouble with birds! Nice shot :) |

Beautiful shot, the shot would be much better if the bird were in focus. I suspect that the original was in better focus, but post processing and scaling to meet submittal requirments hurt. |

The colors and angles of the background mirror those of the bird very nicely. I'd just like to see it without the bird's head in shadow. Of course, wildlife can be pesky about sitting there while you arrange things. :) |

Colors are beautiful. Would have liked a slighlty better focus on the tanager to separate it even more from the lovely bokeh background. |

A little out of focus on the bird, (It looks a little like the string caught most of it). A good shot none the less. 7 |
