I might have tried to cut the exposure a bit to reduce the glare in the upper part. |

Tree bark portion of shot has great texture, is well focused and overall nicely done. The other half of this shot, not so good. Sky overblown and glaring. Leaves are difficult to see, they offer nice color contrast, so I see why you included them, but I think this would have been better with that part cropped off. What's with the rope? Sorry, I talked myself down, started as a 6, now 5. Swash |

I love the concept/perspective of this shot.......reason: I have done it myself. Your shot is nice but the DOF is a bit short. Also I think I'd of cropped off the rope on the right. KEE |

Nice bark. The angel doesn't do anything for me. Would have been nicer without the rope. |

Composition4 Originality7 Technical Aspects5 Meets Challenge7 Total Score6
For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
Good luck!

An interesting photo, but to me the beautifully exposed bark is a little 'heavy' composition wise. |

tree bark works well for texture. the focus is good on the bark, too. the light shining through the leaves is a little bright and the rope to the right is a tad distracting imo. i'm not sure what to suggest (short of asking your to place a bird or squirrel on the tree ;) to add a little more of a focal point for interest, i always seem to have that problem with 'up the tree shots', sorry. -- gr8photos (3) |

The whole picture seems a little too weighted on teh left to me. Maybe if the camera were over to the left a fraction, so tha that the open space on the right wasn't there, it would feel more balanced to me. karmat |

This particular image does not create a sense of great texture for me. I see the texture here, but this texture is something i see every day... = 5 - jmsetzler |

I had this exact same idea, it is funny how many of my idea other people thought of. it makes me feel kind of unoriginal. Maybe it is the other way. Great minds think alike. |
