Forgoing the use of a flash for effect, he seemed to be enjoying his rest.
300mm w/2xtelelconverter F5.6 @1/100 hand held (I couldn't get into the bushes with the tripod ;)

Nice subject, horrible exposure and composition, though. The spiderweb and man-made objects could have been cropped out simply by moving over to the left and down with the camera. With a digital camera, there is no excuse for underexposure, since you can preview your images immediately.

Nice composition. The blad of grass curving through the image lets the eye wander along and the uncluttered background is nice, often hard to achieve. I think what lets your photo down is that it is significantly underexposed. I just played with the levels and stuff to see if postprocessing would help, and it did some, but not much. Since there's nothing really bright in the picture I'm wondering what threw off your lightmeter. Or did you leave it on a non-automatic setting that didn't work here (I have way too many of those shots at home).

I think adjusting the dark/light levels would improve the pic by reducing the 'mist' that dulls out the colors of the image

Good composition, but is rather too dark and without much contrast.
