Keep looking at this pic. Excellent POV and such a cute little expression with the most adorable eyes. I think the white of the eyes is what really makes it pop. Congrats. Adding to favs.

Wonderful shot, congratulations! I think that light from below was the right choice, it would've fallen too flat on the face if it was from above.

all and all a fabulous photo! One to have when she gets older..such a precious look!

Yeah, actually I agree about the elbow. I struggled with how to deal with it. It seemed to take up so much space because of the wide-angle distortion and it was just touching the edge of the frame in any case. I might go back and rethink the crop though.

Also I was asked whether this was taken from a ladder. The answer is "No". I used the 24-70 mm lens at its widest setting, and on the 5D which has no crop factor, this makes for quite a wide angle. The shot was just taken with me standing above her. I had to crop out part of my foot.

Can´t say that I am too surprised this won, that elbow still bothers me but that´s just nitpicking. Congrats!

julie

i have to disagree with some of the things in your note. mostly, i think the whites of her eyes add to the shot. the lighting is good, except for perhaps a little fill lighting from the left.

overall, a great image. congratulations on the win!

I love this wide camera angle of this shot, I also like how the depth of field is shallow but the focus of the childs face and ages on the wall really show the theme of the challenge, excellent 10

This is one of my top 3. I usually don't like kid pictures since they're usually snapshots, but this kid is truly the subject and progressing up.

Nice subject and theme. Excellent DOF. It's also comical which adds the the enjoyment of the viewer (at least me). Good luck, I hope it does well.

I really like the POV and the idea on this one. First time around 8. Coming back.

Second time around this is clearly the best in this challenge IMO. Changing that sorry 8 to a 10. Now I will explain myself. As if you really care?

These are my opinions you can take them however you wish. The look on her face is perfect. The DOF is just right, focus is where it needs to be. The framing/crop of this photo is excellent as well. And if this doesn't ribbon them I am just going to have to whip someones ass.

Nice to see an entry that conveys an interpretation of the theme without relying on the title. Composition doesn't quite work for me, especially the prominence of the elbow and the way it's cropped out. Like the choice to go for black and white.

Great shot, good take on this challenge. I like your lighting, it provides this shot with great tonal range. Good choice on the DOF as well. My one suggestion would be to not have cropped out her elbow. Other than that, well done!
