| Thanks very much myqyl, I knew I was going out on a limb with this entry - I suspected that many would not see as vivid of an interpretation of texture, simply because this photo is showing texture from a distance. -Many are very literal in the way they interpret the challenges_ (I am very pleased with 11th place) - Thank everyone for taking the time to comment. This is amazing photography. Everything is just right!! I like every aspect...ie Lighting, Angle, point of view, color...not time to list them all. This, to me, is a definate wall hanger!!! So peacefull, looks like a wonderful place to get away and just relax. The purple flowers just add so much. EXCELLENT!!! 10+++

Definetly one of my favorites.....probably will end up in my top 10. I really love this photograph, the light and shadow adds dimension to the already present interesting texture of the architecture. I am already a fan of arches so you gain my interest there. Your depth of field is good. I'm glad I can look at any point in the image and see relatively focused. The foreground flowers on the right don't seem to be crystal clear, but certainy acceptable.
Overall I love the rustic appeal of this picture and I'd hang it on my wall. (as if I could find any room on my walls. )
I'm back to say after voting on all the submissions, this is the only one that I gave a 10 to. I like it so much. |

| This is a lovely shot. Texture is present, lots of it. Were I to grade you simply on the photo, no challenge, this is a 10, very nice. As a demonstration of life's texture, it is still a 10. As a demonstration of THE concept of texture (making me think about texture), it misses the mark wide and would be a 4. I am going to split the different and score this texture challenge shot as 6. | this is an excellent setting... lovely view... the purple flowers add a wonderful touch here... my only critique on this photo is in the composition. I think the view here would be quite nice if you were able to take about two or three steps to the left and re-orient the arch at the end of the walkway to some location off center in this photo. It looks like if you had done that, you would lose the arches on the left though... hmmm... scratch that :) I think you probably have this one composed very well... good work :) = 8 - jmsetzler |

| Good depth, good texture. I personally would have taken the picture at a different time of day to put the shadows at a different angle - maybe lighting up the little alcove at the far end. Flowers in the lower right corner look a touch washed out because you probably had to go to a slow speed or large aperture to show the alcove at all. Nice pic - 8 - nards656 |

| i feel that this is a solemn and peaceful place. many of the surfaces are textured, however it feels as if the textures are tangential or secondary to the actual story/personality of the place. a crisp sharp photo with a lot of dof. im curious what those wooden things are past the bench. mag 99 |

| A fine picture while meeting the challenge requirement at the same time. Like the mood of this picture as well as the splurge of green and purple color. Would have been nice if the foreground flowers and leaves could have been a tad sharper. |

| While this is a beautiful photo, and all of the elements of the shot possess some sort of texture, I feel that it's too busy for this challenge. To fully demonstrate the texture, I would have selected one of the columns, archways or the window. This would have allowed for a closeup look, and opportunity to be more creative in the technique. This photo does capture my imagination, and I wouldn't mind relaxing there for a while, but when I look at it, I am not inclined to consider the texture, but rather it's cool beauty. |

For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
