Boy, this wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. First, you have to do the ketchup first. If you do the mustard first, you get droplets on the ends of the ketchup where you start and stop. I did this first on regular paper, but the paper rippled quickly from the moisture.

I took a pic of a DNA strand and laid it on poster board. I traced over the pic with a pen, creating an indention on the posterboard. I then covered the indented pic with the ketchup, then mustard. Simple enough! I don't have a great lighting setup, so I opened some blinds in the house and bounced flash lighting off of the ceiling.

Converted using Raw Shooter. Brought up shadow and highlight contrasts. In PS, adjusted levels a bit, unsharp mask. Cloned out a couple of spots where the ketchup showed through the mustard.

---Greetings from the Critique Club!---

First impression - Neat idea with the DNA!

This shot is a good idea that could have used some more pre-shot prep. With the totally white background there is no context. I don't have any specific suggestions for the background, I just think it would have been better with one, although more difficult for sure.

I would also suggest making the ketchup more red. This challenge used the Advance Editing rules. You could have done a lot to make the ketchup redder. When I first saw the image I though the ketchup was actually pretzels.

Keep thinking up these clever ideas!

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact if you have and question!
