Initial Impression:
"Is that some kind of bone? Oh! It's the foam in stop-action! Pretty cool!" Honestly, I thought it was a bone.
Composition:
Compositionally, it seems just a little off or unbalanced - a bit heavy on the right side, maybe. I do like that the c-shape of the foam is echoed by the surf still on the beach. But then again, the wow factor of this photo doesn't come from the composition, does it?
Color/Tone:
Beautiful beach coloring - cool blues, golden sand & white foam.
Focus/Exposure:
As a commenter said, I like how the depth of field keeps the eye up in the foreground where the action is. To nit-pick, to my eyes, the focus seems to be on the sand dune at the top right of the photo, instead of on the foam, but it's not a terrible thing and it's not all that noticeable.
Title:
It's a bit blah, but it helps the viewer realize what exactly it is they're looking at (well, just me, maybe)..
Meets the Challenge:
Duh.
Summary:
Although the slightly strained composition and slightly soft focus gives me the impression that this wasn't exactly what you planned to shoot, it is definitely an amazing image with a well-deserved score! |

Great job! This one takes a minute to figure out what I'm looking at, but that adds to this photo, rather than take away from it. I loved the clarity of this photo, and the fact that I can see the little bubbles in the foam in the foreground. I loved the clarity of the sand, and it's hint at moisture. Good use of color! I loved the movement of the whitecaps. I'm giving this an 8, as it met the challenge, deserves technical merit, and for having a bit of whimsy to it. The real subject of this photo is only hinted at, but that is what makes it so interesting. |

Terrific capture and framing! Good texture in both sand and foam and small DoF helps the eye to focus. Very good image. |

At first I thought this was a log or something laying along the shore, but then I realized that you caught the foam midair! So rad. I can see this scoring well. |

Interesting capture. A 6 for catching the foam in the air, and the composition is nice too. |
