Macpapas and I went to Santa Cruz Friday night to capture some night shots. This was our first stop. I had some other great shots at the boardwalk but had a lot of dust on my filter since we were on the beach. Grrrrrr. Well I guess never mind the spots. Look the the hot pixels! Grrrrrr!

I used a graduated sunset filter for this shot. Shot in RAW and processed with RSE. Adjusted levels and curves. Used Highlight and Shadow and used Selective Color to bring out subtle hues from each one. Cropped to 470x630 and added a 1 pixel stroke. Enlarged canvas to 480x640. Ran through NI. Sharpened and added a little touch of USM. Saved for web.

Post Challenge
Some people have commented on the fringing around the rocks. Actually it's not because it's oversharpened. It was already there when I shot the photo. The light source was behind the rock hence the natural halo. Thanks for the votes and comments. I am definitely a member of the 7+ with no ribbon club ;)

The purple speck is a hot pixel.

Gave this a 4. The composition is ho-hum, the picture is oversharpened, and the colour... well, that's the only thing that goes for this image.

Great job! What gorgeous color in the sky, and the overall photo. Very different from the other hundred that I've looked at today. The rock is very prominent. I love the appearance of the fog (or is it waves??) in front of the rock, and the subtle water that remains on the sand. I'm raising my original score from a 5 to a 9, only knocking it because I couldn't tell about that fog/wave thing. And great job in meeting the challenge without leaving me to wonder how.

This image looks like a victim of Capture NX. I see a purple spec in the lower right corner. Would be a great photo if it wasn't over-processed and over-sharpened as evidenced by the white line surround the rock.
