An excellent close-up....I think it should have done better...but, there were many very good entries....keep up the good work. |

This image has a lot of noise (grainy-looking) and is very lacking in color fidelity (range of tonal values like the grey scale below). Composition-wise, the problem is the grasshopper is looking away from us; it's a butt-shot! Move around to the front of the grasshopper next time and shoot from a slightly lower angle. |

Interesting subject and setting. A bit more space at the top and right would improve the composition. And it really needs some post-processing to reduce the noise, increase the contrast, and correct the color cast. |

Colors seem washed out and the background is very noisy. |

Good close-up, though the colors are a little bland. The background is grainy and could use some cleaning up. |

Challenge met. I love grasshoppers, especially when it's possible to capture them out in the open like this and not hiding behind lots of leaves or blades of grass. Also like that much of your background is monotone so the hopper stands out more. I guess you didn't get a chance to move around to get a pic more from the front before he (she?) hopped away? That always makes for a more interesting photo for me. Also, yours is quite grainy, I wonder whether that's because you cropped out of a large pic or a high ISO setting. |

the textures of both the grasshopper and the fencepost (or whatever the wood is) are wonderful |

It's a tinsy bit grainy, but nice shot. |

Contrast increase would help. |

Maybe it's the bland background or the light...is that a flash? Just looks a little flat. Still I do think you captured the hopper well just a bit soft. |

I like the texture below the bug. I think your flash went off however and over-exposed the grasshopper. Consider shooting the hopper facing the hopper's face. |

Interesting, colourful subject but is somewhat overexposed. Also, I'd like to see the subject's face more (either get up the other end, or make it a profile shot). |
