Well, you chose the right challenge as I think this would have done even worse in color on color. A few issues. First is subject matter. I think the average person looked at this and just asked "huh?". It doesn't seem to represent something in real life. The title indicates it is "after supper", but we have two full glasses of water, a clean napkin, and a clean plate. I do like your attempt at "creating" something (I like to do that myself), but in this case I think it just was something that didn't resonate with the voter.

Technically the shot could have used a little more contrast (especially the blacks). It is quite centered compositionally which lends even more of a static feel which may not be helpful. The picture also looks somewhat soft. Perhaps that was on purpose, but a bit of USM could have helped there. I'm sure the despeckle and dust and scratches removed some detail as well.

Keep working at things. I see you are making an effort to come up with something original. That's always good.

As promised in the black in white thread last week, I said I would make a comment if I did not during the challenge. You did a well composed shot, but I think that the material may have kept your score down. I am sorry to say I gave this one a 4, only because I did comparisons to other shots and felt this one left a bit to be desired.
Your detail on the washcloth is very good, and your exposure seems just fine. It is a bit soft in focus, though, and the color did not depict black and white very well. The best part of the black and white idea is actually the background. As to the image itself, the color balance appears to be too green, which made the cloth and dish look a bit grimy.

I enjoy the light play and reflections within the glasses as well as the shadows on the table. I'm not sure that I understand the cloth in the bowl however.

where is the black?

I really like all the reflections and refractions. Increasing contrast might be interesting.

Where's the black.

too symmetrical for my taste. Also, you can see that there's stuff on the other side of the towel, and the bowl is distractingly non-white

I don't get it. Where is the Black and White. IMHO DNMC
