This was one of a few great images from this shoot. I had fun with my sons getting the dart through the balloon but it was worth the effort. This one reminded me of a glass exploding.

Here are some outtakes -

Greetings from the Critique Club.

Hi Judi,

Great to draw you for my latest critique club comment, as I enjoy your work.

I like the fact that a good repeat of a 'done' idea can still do well on this site. It is nice to see some variance in the general shape of the captured water. I imagine this gave the shot some novelty value to those already familiar with the stopped water balloon idea. My guess is that this was caught a fraction of a second later then usual with gravity causing the balloon to collapse.

To my eye there is nothing wrong with this shot. It is (naturally) technically sound. The composition makes sense given the subject. There is a lovely balance across the whole shot. I am comfortable stating that the only reason this didn't do better is because it got voted down due to familiarity.

I hope my comments help and Good Luck in future Challenges!

Cheers
Paul

Of course you would use a RED balloon. :P I'm a bit surprised this didn't do better.

The border on this kinda closes this shot in too much. Nice stop action.

Wow. Was that really a glass? Pretty cool shatter if it was. Should get some wow points for this. It's different than many similar images in this challenge with exploding this or that... Will be interested in the photograhers comments on this one after the challenge is over. ;^) Good luck.

nice effort, leaving an interesting composition. the touch of red and the overall lighting make this look more like art and less like a technical/documentary/textbook shot. good work.

doesn't look like glass though - seems like water in a shape of a bottle which is actually kinda cool in an Absolut ocmmercial kind of way (you should have rotated it 180°!) it's obviously superb in a technical sense, and the bottle-deformed shape does add something new to a concept that is so familiar (given a similar shot is one of the most ever viewed here on the site). 8.
