Challenge: Fire II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Location: home
Date: Aug 12, 2006
Aperture: f16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 25 sec/strobes

Date Uploaded: Aug 13, 2006

I failed with my initial concept. A simple physics twist regarding fire and so this was my fall back image which was done simply because the equipment was set up outside and what to do? Again, not up to my standard and not very well thought out, except the the clean start and end of the "Z". Of course, you need someone to cover the lens at the end of the Z and then you discard the torch and proceed. The flash was fired manually, actually two units one on the side and one at a 45 degree angle. Thank goodness, not much editing.

I liked this one - gave it a 7. But now you have revealed your secret identity. :(

Great idea. The Z is excellent.

The white light that you used doesn't really match the shot, you should have used some kind of red diffuser to make it match.

Great but two things let this down - the 'bluring" in the flame just above your head and the lack of fire in the middle of the "Z"

I know this is a cool capture - and the fire itself is delicious - but I find the back-/foreground elements very distracting. They don't seem to assist the shot in any way. The tree trunk behind him also looks a bit like an isolated rain shower!

I think this would be better if the lighting were more multidirectional and a touch more subtle. It's creating a harsh shadow and is itself quite white.

Looks a little bit too staged for my liking (I think the plastic mask is the culprit here) and I think there is too much negative space on the bottom. But the actual flame part of the image looks great - the shape of the Z is right on, and I like how there are two separate lines of flame.

Perhaps losing the lighting or subduing it would make this more dramatic? (JMO)
