Aperture: 4.0

Wow - it's HARD to mask off the entire lens at once so you get pure white all the way around.

I wracked my brain to come up with something different for this challenge. Finally after playing around I thought to focus on this camera's big lens and overexpose everything else.

Let's see whether this B&W does as well for me as my earlier ones.

Editing steps:
1) Crop to 1318 x 1318
2) Desaturate
3) Levels: pulled white down to 216
4) USM: 2.6, 0.5, 0
5) Resize to 640 x 640
6) USM: 2.6, 0.5, 0
7) Save at 93% quality

Post-voting: they're not smudges, but reflections.

I'm not sure quite how to rate this. It's in some ways one of the more interesting images in this challenge - the scratches and flecks on the lens are far more fascinating than numerous images of glossy, perfect, black cameras. Kudos for not flipping the image, as this adds to the interest. It's just...it's not a very friendly image, and it's almost like it doesn't fit anywhere on my internal rating scheme. I think that's a definite positive, on reflection. (chortle at weak joke)

Think your lens needs cleaning ...

Ok, so I have looked at this image several times and scored it an 8 on my first run. I keep looking at it and wondering why an 8? I don't know, but I do know you need to clean the lens. Best of luck! 8

Aside from the smudge marks on the mirror/glass/whatever, I really like the simplicity of this. Nice tight crop of the lens and the b/w convert makes for a great shot. Bumping up!

Interesting, like the b/w study and the high contrast works well for this image IMHO. 7
