I will bet noone else enters an IR shot with Steves face in it. I had no ideas for this challenge early on. Mid week I took a couple of IR shots at the zoo and came home with this one that looked pretty clean and crisp after editing. I had contemplated entering it into soft but came up with something better for that one. Figured I would just enter this IR shot without Steve in this anyways - knowing that I would probably get reamed for it.
Another update - "Steve Brush" at the moment is now illegal so I am unable to submit my desired version as of 1:50pm on Tuesday. So I will submit the version without Steve unless they let me know otherwise. Bummer.
Enter Photoshop Custom Brush Tool. Reading the threads I figured out what they were talking about. I discovered that I could actually do this with Elements. And what was even better is that after turning Steve into a paintbrush, choosing a color off the trees made it fit right in with the scenery color. I now think I have something that might do well in this challenge. I have it in to SC for validation right now (Friday before the challenge) to see if its legal. From my understanding it is good to go. We shall see.
Update - Muckpond responded in email on Friday that this was acceptable in this challenge only. Reading the threads over the weekend though there seems to be a contradiction to that response along with Langdons clarification and a response by Konador. I went back to my email to locate Muchponds response and I cant find it. I cant believe I would have deleted it yet I have no clue where it went. Two tickets and several posts later I still have no final response and it is now about 10 hours before voting. I tried to reshoot my pic this morning but the camera does not pick up printed detail well at all on the mask that I made. So this is/was my entry and I guess all I can hope for is that I do not get dqed. I will probably get reamed for using the "Steve brush" by voters now, but this is the shot I wanted to enter and I do believe 100% that it is legal. Fingers crossed. Hope you like it Steve!
Final update for those who actually read this far through (you - my dedicated description readers - I do this all for you!). At exactly 3:32pm on Tuesday I recieved an email confirmation from Frisca that the "Steve Brush" is good to go. Now watch me be the only one who uses it and thusly get voted down. Oh well. I am able to submit the pic I desired to and again I hope Steve approves.
Post process - usual IR stuff - levels, channel swap, saturation adjustments, selective color adjustments, burning trees, blurring sky, NI, USM, resize for web, painted in black Steve background and then painted over with tree color Steve, burned, painted and cloned pieces on Steve, border. |

I love this photo. Your creativity is just getting better and better (and a bit edgier too). Great technique to go with it. The only thing I might offer would be to clone out the couple flowers hanging from the branches in the upper left corner...I thought they were smudges at first (even tried to wipe them off my monitor. LOL). |

You guys are really having fun with the IR stuff, aren't you? Still not my cup of tea, but I do like this - looks a lot like where Aimee took the camera self-portrait shot. The location does seem to lend itself well to IR. Love the novel, by the way. :-) Like Steve in the corner, but don't like the "blue" water from the fountain - is there a way to legally not make that part blue? |

Trading post...
I normally don't like the IR shots. I don't know why except maybe they just don't feel natural. With that in mind, I'll let you know that I gave you an 8 in voting because it was original. I actually almost missed the face at the bottom (and that would have dropped you down), but lucky you, I caught it! |

Nicely done IR except for that ugly guy (me) in the lower left corner. Leaving the sky blue works well except I would eliminate it from the rest of the image.
Arizona is a great place for IR imaging. Stark landscapes taken in the early morning make for great IR images. You ever get out that way you might want to try it. - Steve |

Looks very cold. Love the blue sky and the person in the bottom left. Definately gives you the Where's Waldo effect. |
