Challenge: Silhouettes III (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Location: Ontario
Date: Aug 23, 2006
Aperture: f8.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Galleries: Black and White, Children
Date Uploaded: Aug 24, 2006

Rotate, crop, LAB curves, sharpen. Something I didn't like so went back and used calculations to b & w..
My kids were playing in an old barn, having fun and then I asked them to pause in front of this window for me. Of course his head shouldn't be in front of that trim, it blocks the outline,,,but I don't like to set these things up too much...for me this whole shot was a bit too forced anyway.

Back from vacation to see that you finished very well. I'm glad - I loved this one. Congratulations! I was off slightly with my earlier prediction as 15th was straight B&W & finshed slightly ahead of you. Still....maybe I have some special powers? Hee hee! :) Great job on top 20 in a challenge full of stiff competition.

This is a nice shot, but would be better if the boy wasn't in front of the door edges.

Nice but would be even better if the little boy was moved to the right away from the centre of the window.

This is a very interesting picture.... Would absolutely love it if the outlines of the kids were more obvious... as it is it gets a 7 from me because I love the pp and surroundings ... good luck :o)

I find this a powerful photo in terms of content and tension and was deeply moved by it. It works well as a silhouette with just enough mystery. I especially like that little sliver of light between the two windows - indicating to me that there is some element of hope as they possibly contemplate the journey ahead of them. Without it I think they would have appeared trapped somehow. The barren fields remind me of an Anselm Kiefer painting (a famous german painter - if you are not familiar with him). The only element that distracted me was the little white dots on the lower right corner. A wonderful phot and I would love to have a print of it.

So sweet. What a great idea and special capture this is. One of the few in the challenge that is strong even without a vibrantly colored sky. I predict this will be one of the highest ranked straight B&W shots! (Hee hee - let's see what a prediction from me is worth!). Although there are those "I hate any kid shot" nazi's out there that might hit you hard. I'll do my part....bumping to 9.

I kind of like this picture, but the window or door edges in the middle throw it off for me. I would like to see the children in front of a smaller window, one that doesn't have such a large molding down the window. Otherwise I really like the set-up, dirty windows and all!
