Challenge: Macro II (Classic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z
Location: My home office computer desk
Date: Sep 21, 2003
Aperture: f11
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1 / 2.5
Galleries: Still Life, Macro
Date Uploaded: Sep 21, 2003

I came up with this idea on the last day of the challenge.

I taped an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of printer paper to my home office computer desk. I then traced a 1 cm dot-grid across the page on which I placed the tiny seashells, thus hiding the dots. The larger central seashell rests on a $2 CDN coin, a Toonie. This was done to give an idea of scale.

I would have liked greater depth of field but I could only reach f11 with my camera in macro mode.

Socialistic interpretation of our neighbo(u)rs to the North? Interesting photo, and one that looks like it took a few minutes to set up. Well taken.

The small shells provide an effective background texture. The large shell is the obvious center of interest in this image; it should be in focus.

Lovely patterned shot. I think a little fill light on the right would have improved the effect, lessening the shadow from the large shell.

I like what you're saying, but I think the point would have still been made without the coin. I feel that the coin interupts the repetition of the shells.

this shot really appeals to me but I'm finding it difficult to express why I like it. The textures in the shells, repetition and shadows all work nicely. I like the coin for scale. I've come back to it several times hoping something else about it would pop into my mind, but it hasn't so you just get my congrats and I leave this shot frsutarted at my lack of ability to put together a coherent critique. :)

Excellent. Many elements I relaly like here. the strong shadows tand the textured feel of the small sheels. Good luck. top 3. Jacko. 10
