Photographer’s Notes
• Labor Day (US Holiday) weekend Sunday, my daughter (Outdoorgrrl), son-in-law and I took our Ducatis to Mt. Rainier. We rode to the Sunrise visitor center (elevation 6,400 feet … nearly 2,000 m) and did some hiking. We returned home later in the afternoon. A great day and a “simple pleasure” for me to be with them.
• Due to the forest fires burning in Washington State, the air was very hazy. Also, it was mid-day during our hiking so the sun was high in the sky. These factors combined to wash out the photos and no amount of under exposure really compensated.
• Finally I was using my wife’s point-and-shoot Sony. It has the advantage of being able to slip into a pocket on my motorcycle jacket which my D200 can’t. It is a 7 MP camera and quite capable. But it’s not a DSLR.
• All the above necessitated quite a lot of post processing. Usually when I work this hard on a photo I end up damaging it more than helping it. Hopefully not this time. And in the end, I felt it needed a border, which I almost never add).
• In any event, if even a small part of our hiking enjoyment survives the photo, you will enjoy it. I hope so.
