Critique Club Review:
Tilt or no tilt I like this picture. From what I can tell, it is really hard to tell. The sea and sky get really close in color and tend to merge at the horizon. With the shadows of the clouds also on the water, it really is difficult to measure exactly. I also think that when it gets to that point, it starts to get just a wee bit silly. So I'm going with optical illusion here. That being said, it still makes the photo look tilted. Interesting effect, but for voters who are going to take all of 10 - 15 seconds to look at some of the pictures, they may not stop to analyze.
Very good focus and depth of field. Color is good, though personally I might have preferred a bit richer color. (I'm a sucker for saturated flaming sunsets.)
I like the composition. The fence adds to this piece. I've seen them as distractions in so many others.
I found the kite. That is so cool... I might not have found it, were it not mentioned. Then it becomes a "Where's Waldo" like hunt. Once you find it, it really stays obvious.
Had the picture appeared more level, and possibly with more saturation in the sunset colors, I think your score would have gone up quite a bit.
As it is, this is an excellent photo. One I could see hanging on my wall for a long time. Very nice job. |

The kite is there, left branch. It gives a reference on how big the tree is.
PS: I measured the horizon and made really sure it was straight. The tilt is optical illusion i guess. thanks for your comment. |

Photo appears tilted to the left. I think in part that is due to the tilt of the tree and the slope of the ground, but also in part I think it is just tilted to the left. Lot of your main subject has been cropped out of the photo and I'm not sure why. This appears to have been taken with a wie angle lense given the amount of distortion that is visible, so it shouldn't have taken more than a few steps backward to get everything in frame. Normally I like the inclusion of things like fences in a shot as they provide some added interest, but the height of this broken down fence distracts from the tree and clutters what would have otherwise been a nice sunrise horizon. Good luck. |

I am sure this will seem narrow minded, but I have a thing about horizons that aren't, well, horizontal. Staighten the photo and I could give it a point or 2 more. Otherwise a beautiful setting. Nice colors. Well focused. Nice concept well executed. |
