Spent 10 days in a State Forest and park and couldnt come up with one good single tree shot to save my life. This is a tree by a factory in Columbus. The tree isnt really on the ridge but just behind it. I had to get myself real low to the ground to get as much of the trnk as I could with out any of the chain link fence showing behind it. Its not a great shot but I can hope for a high five and maybe a 6 to not only continu eon my streak but also help my WOL team take out Magnificent 7 which would get us into the wildcard slot for the playoffs.

Post processing - crop, minor cloning, levels, saturation, hue adjustments, curves, USM, spot blurring, border, resize for web.

Critique Club Review:

Very nice colors. And very creative in getting a tree on a ridge where there wasn't one.

Exposure, color, saturation and hues are done well. Brightness and contrast are also excellent.

It's that darn sky.... It seems too tall. I've been sitting here with a piece of paper up to the screen to try to figure out a better crop. But I keep going up, up, up. There doesn't seem to be a good place to end it.

The cloud pattern at the top is distracting in its difference from the rest. The pattern looks almost like somebody laid something on the non-existant negative or slide.

I also like very much the transition of the colors from the horizion to the upper sky.

I think you did an extrodinary job with what you had to work with.

'Tis a good "average DPC" shot - aka much better than the average person would shoot, but only average for DPC and not as good as you're used to. I'm not entirely sure I like the balance - the tree takes too much space to be "minimalistic". I'm thinking a long horizontal shot might be the ticket, though obviously not possible from the way this was framed.

Trading post...
Very lovely colors in the sky. The upper clouds in the top right seem more like noise though. I know it's not, but the other clouds seem smooth and flowing. I might have cloned them out. The tree could have used some more definition. It is a nice silhouette though. I guess in a nice way I'm trying to say, it's not a bad shot, but it's not really up to the standards you've been setting for yourself. I gave it a 5 in voting.

I think this has a bit too much negative space. Nice sky though.

great choice of subject, and your timing on the shot is good as well. the colors in the sky are lovely. i think it would have been okay to come in a bit tighter on the tree - it would have been nice to see some more definition in the silhouette.

The sky is huge and too lovely to lose. You did use the rule of thirds there I think! ;-) Nice work.
