My first thought of seeds was as bird food. Here I tried to capture the gold finch fighting each other off for a spot at the feeder.

Crop, levels, hue/saturation, NI, resize, USM.

Critique Club Review:

Excellent photo...

Captures the spirit of the challenge well. Focus does appear a tiny bit soft.

I like your use of depth of field to isolate the subject. At the same time, the colors of the background are such that it competes a bit for attention with the coloring of the birds, almost making them drab by comparison. I would have preferred the background a little less bright.

Still an excellent photo, and deserving of the high score it received. Congratulations on your top ten finsh.

I really loved this image in the challenge, and I was also surprised it didn't ribbon as well.
I gave you one of your "10", as this is one of those special moments that only come along at the right time, for you to capture.

I'm really surprised that you didn't get a ribbon for this .The normal photographical elements of the photo are good but not perfect, and the birds are not the most beautiful birds I've ever seen, but the action and expressions of the birds are amazing, and make this a very awesome photograph.

Wow, this is cool. I'll bet it was really interesting to watch these guys interact. The b/g is a bit bright, but the sharpness of the birds and seeds is really good.

Good moment captured. The background works really well with the action, the way that the aggressive bird has all that lighter green energy around it. Interesting expression of the third bird on the right. He seems totally disconcerted by all the action. Could have been slightly sharper and I am not talking about the wings. I like the motion blur there.

Good catch of the action. There is a significant color shift causung the Goldfinches to be unnatural.

Wow, you mastered the art of pressing the shutter at the right moment. A lot of action and drama in here. Great idea and well executed!

the bird on the right side that is cut off is a bit distracting since it is cut off in an otherwise compelling image. If it were not there or included entirely I think it would make it a stronger image. great color and stop action.
