I saw a picture in a magazine of this row of torii and noted its location, the Nezu Shrine in Tokyo, not far from Ueno Park (even closer to Tokyo University). If the opportunity ever came up to use it in a Challenge, I planned make the trip in to Tokyo. And a Free Study is just right for it. ;>þ

This old man was feeding pigeons when I first arrived at the shrine complex (took some candids then). The torii really needed a human figure to make it a more interesting picture, so it was really lucky that he came through with his dog. I only took three shots, and wish I'd had a faster shutter speed.
The Nezu Shrine had a rest-day from its 301st anniversay festival, and the three elaborate portable shrines were on display.
Well, let's see how it does.
Originally I titled it "Red Tunnel", but I think "King Charles" is better, considering the spaniel. ;>þ

Ha! I guess I was the only one that saw this as a 10. I love everything about it including the bright white hair and the King Charles Spaniel. The man looks wise and gentle and he is a perfect selection for this image. It's peaceful and serene.

Don't understand why this wasn't higher up in the voting, but what do I know. I am a n00b! :)

Great photo!

I really like the idea and composition of this image. The red posts impart an amazing visual element. I love the man's expression. It looks, however, like something went wrong with the post-processing of the man's hair.

What an interesting character and backdrop. Wished I knew the story behind this. Why is it called King Charles?

this a fine shot of a man who looks as i, but he is an inscrutable gentleman, of this i have no doubt. I have bumped this up to 8

Perfect natural moment there. The King Charles is more paparazzi-aware than the man. 8.

Interesting portrait, good the light in the hairs. perhaps with that light was possible a tightened shot on the face.

What a sweet dog, and what a strong chacter the old timer is...
