The original was too dark, so I lightened it (fill light), converted it to black and white and warmed the image very slightly to give it a more antique look without going completely sepia.
This was taken on my way from the Charleston area up to Greenville, SC on Friday afternoon after work. I thought it might be nice to take the "long way home", put my top down on my convertible and enjoy the nice weather. I stopped 4 different times/places and shot lots of old roads lined with large, spainish moss covered trees. The last of the stops produced this shot. If you go to my portfolio, you'll see a very similar picture I took much earlier in the summer - different road, entirely different area around Charleston, but still the same beautiful Southern setting. There's something about spainish moss, large oak trees and dirt roads that just take you back...
This particular road led to a beautiful, expansive plantation style home (far enough away that it's not visible from the picture). |

This is one of the images in the challenge I really appreciated. It's enduring. You have some lovely photo locations down there (and cuisine!). |

Thanks to all those who voted and especially those who commented! I always like to welcome comments - it's the best way to improve, too!!!
However, I do want to add, as Sandy did, I disagree with the comment about the rule of thirds on this photograph. Sometimes, certain photos, lend themselves well to being centered - this is one of them! As you will see if you take the time to view my portfolio, the majority of my photos have creative angles when the different angles compliment the art! |

Marjorie, this is beautiful. And what a cool story about how you got the shot. Sounds like a glorious way to begin your weekend :) The sepia tones are wonderful!
I just got back from vacation, so I missed all the voting, but I certainly would have rated this higher than 5.7.
(and I disagree about the lines having to be to the right or left! That rule of thirds thing is so rigidly used here, and many times, a photo is much more effective with a centered subject. As it is here!) :) |

This is one of my top 5, for this challenge, and have come back to study this image, the depth of field is good, the use of B&W tone suites to creat an era, and the shadow & highlights work well.....9 |

I like the subtlety of the "lines" here, they are more imagined than real. One sees lines curving among the trees as well as the lines of the path. And the viewer truly is "led," though goodness knows where. |
