Challenge: Flight (Classic Editing)
Camera: Sony DSC-F717
Location: Raptor Center, Sitka, Alaska, USA
Date: Sep 24, 2003
Aperture: f2.4
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/40 sec
Date Uploaded: Sep 28, 2003

This is actually, sadly enough, an eagle that will never leave the ground again. She hops around trying her best, but the vets give her no chance at success. She is being cared for at the Raptor Center in Sitka, Alaska.

Almost no post-processing since I'm on a laptop for the week.

Nice composition. Good focus. I'm not sure if this meets the challenge.

Nice subject, but it looks more like it's sitting on the ground than flying, despite its spread wings. Highlights on the tail look a bit blown out.

He just looks weird down on the ground. Is he stuffed?

I really don't want to sound to hard but a critique is a critique right and not meant to be offensive at all, rather helpful. First of all this bird is not really in flight which was the main requirement of the challenge. Secondly, I find the crop is a little too tight, I would have left some more breathing space around it. Thirdly, the photo appears a tad to flat, maybe pumping the contrast a little by adding a brightness/contrast adjustment layer might have enhanced it somewhat. I still gave this photo a 6 though, because I like the stance of the bird that you have captured, the way its wings are spanned out and also the way it is looking.

Well, it's not flying, but I'll not give you too much of a hard time on that. White is tough, the glare (over-exposed) tail really hurts this image, the head is better, but still a bit rough. Looks like it was a rainy day. 6 Rob the Swash

Not quite with the primary feathers gone on left wing.
