Far too much effort for this picture! Only had two objects so had to set up the monkey and the woodie in one position, fire the flash, replace the lens cap, set up again and fire the flash again, hence no shadows. It didn't work exactly as planned but I quite like it all the same.

Adjusted in RAW, then in PS adjusted levels, dodged/burnt out some unwanted background, lighted the legs slightly and resized added border and SFW. A bit of USM along the way as well.

PS I know we didn't evolve from tailed monkeys, however, I didn't want to edit this out! :)

Really happy this finished in the top 10. Plenty of effort!
1) Buy the woody
2) Wood stain the woody
3) Wacky setup
4) Run back and forth turning the lights on and off
5) Repeat 30-40 times
6) Post process with countless tweaks and indecisions on my part

Thanks for all the comments 41! in challenge.

I agree about the lighting, the effect was nearly what I was after, just not as 'blown out'!

The monkey has been in the family for ages, pretty sure it was my mothers from when she was a little girl living in Malaya (Malaysia now)

Well played Team Underexposed!!

Very clever and well thought out. The lighting worked wonders here.
I am just going to have to try something like this soon - thanks for the inspiration to get off my butt and just do it!

Very clever idea and well executed. I like the decision of the cross lighting, but it may be a little too bright, IMO. Good job.

Very fun image, and great poses. Only the light does not work for this, too blown out on the front sides. and the figures themselves feel out of focus.. this would have done well very crisp.

There are some blown-out areas where the lighting was too harsh on the face and chest areas. Softer lighting would have earned a higher vote.

I like the idea, but I think the lighting spoils the shot in that it's too contrasty.

Funny! The one thing I would change is the bright highlights are a little too bright for me. A little overblown.

Really well done. Great concept. Great executiuon. The strong light from the right really works with this idea.

Good idea, use, and posing of monkies and woodies. Effective lighting.

The light is a bit too harsh on the left of woodies. Nice idea though

Excellent idea. It seems the erect woody is not as crisp as the previous 3, maybe too much dodge/burn to get him into the picture or just slightly oof?

10/11/2006 01:12:56 PM
Now that's a good composition: very clever..I like the fact that the picture looks untampered with and honest.Pity the evolved woody is out of focus.

10/11/2006 01:00:42 PM
LOL, nice! Bit tightly cropped at the right which gives man-woody no place to walk into.

Heh! Cute and clever! Light is just a bit bright but placement of the light is good.

Nice idea and execution, but for me the image is missing that little something. I think it might be that it could do with a little more saturation to bring out the colour. Also the burned out areas are a little distracting.

Good effort all the same, good luck
