Thank you everyone for your comments!
I had a difficult time with this. I took many shots and ended up using number 5! Just to clearify, sepia was not used for this. I am still working on my skills and am very pleased to do this well.
A little note: This was a great challenge subject for me - "Something Old". My grandmother was an antique dealer - lending our family to be somewhat 'packrats'. When the subject was listed on DPC, I new there was one person that would not let me down - mother! She started taking out so many things - including 2 German helmuts from WWI & II. The telegraph caught my eye the most and ran with it.
Thanks again for all of your comments and congratulations to this week's winners!! |

I once had a telegraph key, but it was military surplus and of a much later vintage. |

Depth of field needs improvement in this and maybe a little lighter and more contrast. Meets the challenge just fine though. |

It's a bit blurry at the back. With a greate DOF I would have score this one a couple of points higher. |

I think your choice of sepia tones was good for this subject. |

This almost fooled me into thinking this was sepia, but I don't think so now. Nice focus on the foreground, and it seems to hold up to about the middle before the distance is too great to remain focused. Nice job! 8 Swash |

Good subject. Sepia tone not necessary. |

What a lovely old antique! Lovely colour but slightly flat lighting. Good close up focus. |

Successful monochromatic image gives an abstract quality to this object. |

I love the color of this. It's a telegraph thingy, right? I wish that that um...round thing to the left weren't so close to the side of the frame. |

Technically very nice and an interesting subject. I like the use of sepia to enhance the rust. |

I was thinking of doing the exact same photo, but the only one of these I could find was behind glass. Excellent photo overall. |

Great subject, but I think you need more light with aperature and speed adjustments to compensate. The subject will prove its age without the subdued lighting. In my opinion, Autool |

I would have scored this higher with better focus, as this is a really a good subject |

Something old. Use your photographic technique to emphasize the age of your subject. Composition - quite good Technical Aspects - quite good Meets Challenge - yes+ Visual Impact / Originality - quite good
