The lighting is excellent, very dramatic. Your choice of DOF is also just right. The bird is way too centered and compositionally and overall feels a little unbalanced. One suggestion would be to move a little to your right, placing the bird to the left one-third and keeping the sailboat in the same position in the frame it is now. I think that would help the balance, and give a little separation between the boat and bird.

I usually try not to give how I would of done it comments, but I really like the light and DOF. I think the composition I described would compliment nicely.

good composition, and good work to get the lighting when it was like this.

Nice capture; the composition seems a bit "off" to me. The bird is so close to the boats in the background, I'd step to the right and get more land behind the bird OR step to the left and put them on the opposite side of the bird. Some fill flash would help a lot to bring out the color and detail on the bird.

Good composition and subject for this shot. It looks almost as if the focus is on the body of the bird, rather than on the head. That is to say, the head of the bird looks a little soft to me. Part of that is probably due to the backlighting, but my eye is really drawn to the head and beak of the pelican.

The lighting is very nice. I would like this better if I could see the pelican's eye. Also the very bright reflection below the pelican is distracting. Easy enough to tone it down.

Nice profile, I think it would be a bit better if we got to see a bit more eye in this case. Great job with comp and sharpness.

oh my gosh, if it was sitting on a briefcase I would give it a 10. I thought for second as it was loading it might be...

This would be better with the bird off-center to the left and if there was better light on the bird's head.
