Le Club Critique, bonjour Renee.
Well I've decided to double my critiques for the CC this month to "2". You are number two. When I first saw this pic I thought it was a wooden post sticking out of something concrete, the texture of your apple does give me the impression of concrete somehow. I eventually figured out what it is though. I like photos where I have to spend a bit longer looking at it to find out what it is, or how it is done etc.
The B&W and the play of shadows on the surface of the apple combine well together. The cropping is a little unusual. Actually Kavey hit the nail on the head with her comments below, I can't really add to what she has already written.
I only wish you had included the exposure details with this image in the "Photographic Information" tab. Other than that, well done, it's a good photo. |

This looked like a fist at first. Very unusual choice of subject and lighting - good, rich textures. Composition is too central for me but it's a memorable piece. |

I would have liked to see the color version of the picture, would have worked better IMHO. |

Excellent abstract. Great tonal values here and the shapes created by the shadows are fantastic. |

This is creative, unique, gritty, enigmatic. I like it very much. My only negative feeling is that composition is not as strong as it could be. Too much space at left and right and not enough below. Could do with a touch more above too. I think it would suit a slightly squarer frame ratio better. |

Wow I like this image! It took me awhile to figure out its apple nature (even with the title) It looks like a fist to me sort of. Keeps my attention. Use of light is great, I like that it has a bar effect on it, instead of the usual unbroken light. Black and white really works for this, adds to the striking nature. The harsh light spots are the only major downside I see, but even that isn't too bad. Well done. 8 |

This is one of the more interesting apple shots I have seen. Did you think about turning the apple a little. The stem is too perfectly aligned with the shadows. That makes it blend in to much. Might improve the dynamics. Excellent use of light. |

A good demonstration of how light and shadow can completely obscure an object's shape. |

Love this shot. It took some time to wrap my brain around it. Great use of light. Photos that allow me to see an ordinary object in a new way are what photography is about. I dont know if you planed it or not but the stem casts a shadow perfectly parallel to the other shadows. Great job. 8 |

Interesting image and use of light. If you don't read the title the image is hard to determine. |

Nice idea. It was kind of hard to tell it is was apple at first.
I thought it was a pumpkin.
Maybe because there are so many in this challenge :) |
