Thanks for the votes and the comments.
The word Abandonded was teh subject of my photo. The warehouse was used as an atmosphere background and the "OLD" weed ...in weed years :-)... was the entry to the photo.
Photography for me is as much about emotion transformed to shapes as it is about absolute literal images of objects we can easily classify, stereotype and file away.
The emotion of Abandonded is the desolation, the left behind and forgotten idea but the beauty of a nice summer day should still be evident in a very quite part of an old warehouse facility. Not just a photo of an old building with broken windows. :-) |

My GOODNESS these people are literal!! I absolutely love this shot and can't believe it didn't fare better. If it wasn't Monday morning I might be able to put some coherent thoughts together and explain just why it's so great...lol. |

Nice background! It really complements the foreground dandelion. Keep it up! |

nice nature shot, but the 'old' is not in the story. (broken windows? is that old?) |

I can see what you're trying to say, but your method of focusing on the thisle and letting the apandoned building stay behind your depth of field weakens your statement. |

I love the colors of this shot, and I think the photographer had great forethought of subject matter, capturing the old building with broken windows with the spent and fluffy dandelion (or is it thistle?) The colors are fabulous, the DOF and focus are great. |

The more I look at this, the more I like it. You have an "old" thistle AND an old building. Beautiful, crisp shot. Bumping you up to an 8 :-) |

Nice idea to use the weeds to frame the broken-down building. I would, however, like to see the DOF switched; i.e. the window in focus, and the flower framing it, but out of focus. |

I liked it, but to me it'd look better with the building focused insted of the flower. (6) |

This is an interesting shot of plant life... since the plant is the subject of the photo, I'm not sure of your intentions for showing 'something old' in this photo. I can see that the building in the background is old, but it is secondary to everything else in this image... - jmsetzler |

I really like this though that bluey-white bit at top left is distracting. Still getting v. high marks. Really lovely. |

Interesting juxtaposition of elements. I like the focus here. karmat |

Neat. I do wish I'd have been able to see a little bit more of the factory in the background...it seems sort of overpowered by the dead flowers and especially the green grass at the bottom. |

I am not sure how this show the age of something to fit the challenge. Are you talking about the abandoned building, the flower, or both? |

I didn't know which was the subject, the dandelion or the building. Either is good, but together it's a little distracting. |

The focus is wonderful and the lighting is brilliant. The subject is maybe a bit too centered. The flower actually looks kind of healthy to me but I'm not a botanist. |

I am very conflicted over this shot. It is WONDERFUL! The title seems to be referring to the building (background, not subject), but the thislte by itself is a wonderful shot. If you had titled this old flower/thistle/gone with the wind, whatever referring to the plant, this would be a 10, period. 9 Swash |

Good framing to provide an interesting view of the subject. Color, focus, and DOF work very well here. |

what's abandoned? if it's the building, shouldn't it be more of a focal point in the photo?

Great photo, though I have one siggestion for composition: move the main bud into the lower half of the frame, and allow the upper buds to fill the top half. |

Beautiful! Very cleverly composed to bring the eye up to the windows in the background. The subject of the photo is the age of the building, even if the weeds have the focus. 10 for subtelty :) - lisae |

This plant doesnt look abandoned. Oh - you mean the building? This is a good case of the title being detrimental to the shot. So I'm choosing to ignore the title. It's a great shot - I like the subject being out of focus back ground. The plant/weed gives a good overgrown feeling to the place. Focus, colour and contrast are all great. Well done - great shot. 8 from me. |

It seems more a photo of a weed than of an abandoned building. Perhaps that's what you were looking for...but not what appeals to me today. |

yes, the building in the back is old, but the main focus on this is the plant, which cant be that old. |

I dont know what to look at here. The weed or the buildiing. ThinkI would have picked one or the other. |
