I'm trying to figure out why you put the strawberries in the gap where you took out the slice, instead of either letting it show or rotating the cake to show the intact side. Sure looks yummy though! |

Congrats Mom on your highest score yet! You nearly broke into the six range!! That is awesome! I read all of the comments on this image. there are some good ones to learn from. Several people mentioned a tilt, but I bet it is not a level problem. If you take a photo at an angle other than straight on, it will make the line between the flat surface and the background (in this case the table and the wall) appear to be angled. If you shot this straight on, perpendicular to the wall, you would not have that issue. Great job on this shot!

Now this looks good! I like the elegant dinnerware and lace that sets if off. The little fairy godmother is also a nice touch! The highlights and shadows are a bit harsh here, so you may want to experiment with diffusing your light, or just take everything outside on a bright day, find some solid shade (like in your garage), and just use sunlight--you'll get natural colors, more pleasant hightlights and shadows and a generally more appealing shot. Just a thought. Again--nice work and good luck. Most of all--have fun eating this cake! |

Very lovely composition, but I think the angel is a bit much for it, it's quite too rich with it. |

Very nice. Good color on the strawberries. Nice attention to details; the figurine, English tea cup, sprinkles, etc. |

This looks so yummy! That glaze is making me hungry! ;)
The shot seems a bit off balance, like it's leaning a bit to the left and the overall lighting is a bit harsh, the silver on the fork looks blown out. The cropping is wonderful and the roses in the back with the angel knick knack is a very nice touch. An 8 from me ;)

Yummy subject and beautiful presentation. I might have liked a different background, but not much to improve on IMHO. |

This looks like something my Mom would make! (Are you my MOM?). It's not just the cake, but the cup and saucer, lace, and mostly the Fairy Godmother! I give it a 10! |

I think the cup of coffee and one slice of cake would have been better. It's over done imho. I like the crochet table cloth...that works well. Too many elements overall, and it needs to be simplified. Just my opinions, hope they help.

Nice focus. A little bit more light from above/ behind would help eliminate the shadows. There is a little bit of a tilt too. From a compositional view point, It's a little busy. There are too many competing visual patterns or textures. |

Maybe a little too much clutter and no actual focal point, composition sits well together but there is too much scattering, a little off level on the shot which I imagine to be hard to correct in the way of after wards in photoshop or the like as the cup of tea/coffee would then we un-level. |

YUM! That cake looks very good. I'll be checking for the recipe once this challenge is over. I like the set-up. It looks very princess/high-society. The cake looks extremely appetizing, both in its full form and in the slice. Those strawberries are huge and to die for! Choice of settings work very well. I wish the cake was a bit more in focus in the back - this could just be the light on the glaze though. Very delicious looking photo. 8 |
