I didn't vote in this challenge. If I had this one would have been up among my top scorers. It's a great shot. Lovely textures on the vase, and the colour range is warm and inviting - very Autumnesque. Congratulations on the well-deserved ribbon.

Thanks for all the comments! This was a last minute entry that I almost never entered because I saw some flaws I didnt have time to fix, but I liked it enough to enter thinking I would score mid 5's. Wow, what a surprise to get second! I guess sometimes you never can tell. Thanks again to all who voted (except the 2, boohoo!)

8. Beautiful. It would be stunning if the material exiting the vase was more crisply focused. I really like this photograph.

The lighting on this is excellent and so is the tone of the entire picture.

The lighting works very well here to backlight the plant, bring out the texture of the jug, and cast a nice shadow all at once.

This is an exceptional photo - I love the texture and color of the background. I love the composition. Lighting, colors, DOF - all great! The only thing I'm bugged about is the wheat - but that's just a personal choice. I've pictured this in my mind without the wheat and it still looks great to me. Good choice with the framing - all around and excellent shot - I definately see a ribbon on this one! :-)

Very traditional image likely appealing to a broad spectrum of viewers, technically accomplished and sensitively executed.

Critical notes: Such a warm and -soft- rendition would, IMHO, benefit from a complete absence of any decor. I'd prefer a hairline border, white or black or none or at all. The hue-matched line, I feel, softens an already soft image.

The tilt of the vase is weighted heavily by the spatial extension of the single grass across the width of the photo. For a more pedantically balanced composition, I feel, that a slight counter-clockwise rotation would be something I'd consider.

Wonderful, warm colours. I like the composition as well, gratulations!

Excellent lighting and tones. I love the texture visible on the jug/vase. The focus is superb on the jug, I do wish it extended to the grain of wheat which looks a little soft to me. I like the simplicity of the subject: both the vision and techincal aspects have been accomplished admirably. Well done. 10

Refreshing play of light and shadows. The image composition is also original and together with the color tones make for a top pic - 9.

The lighting has a very natural early morning look to it, which I like. The branch sticking out of the container appears to be out of focus or soft when compared to the container itself, which seems to take away from the overall composition.

Great lighting. Really adds a soft feel to it. really makes the texture on the vase pop out. Good luck. Jacko. 9

edit: bumped this to a 10. Top 3 this week.

Wonderful lighting and texture. Background is great too. I like that you picked a different perspective, but not sure the 45 degree angle thing works for me... Good luck!

Beautiful rich color. The only flaw I see is the white area where the handle meets the vase. I love the compostion of this !

This is a beautiful shot, you utilized the lighting very well, the accentuation of the vase is outstanding and the lighting softly bouncing off just portions of the dried floral portion is excellent I like this alot
