This photo is so beautifully done, and understated, which is what intrigues me! I love the darkness with the bright red bursting out!

Very powerful image - well done. Congrats on the top ten, too.
11/29/2006 01:22:15 AM
Well done all around, from the red ribbon having the only color to the dehumanizing crop.
11/29/2006 12:40:24 AM
I love how the face is cropped off like that. It makes this photo less about the individual and more about a group of people.

Nice idea and interesting composition with crop below eyes. I think that cropping out some of the negative space would be better.
11/27/2006 11:32:27 AM
i like how it isn't centered and how the red is the only color in the image

I viewed this challenge as being about content: the image should graphically call to mind a time. Second to that would be technically execution. This particular photograph skillfully accomplishes both in an iconic manner - Well done!

I remember the first stories out of the San Fransico Chronicle. We had no idea then. Nice photo; just a little oof (on purpose?).

Excellent use of the red ribbon on the black. Like the way the subject is offset, really nice.

Such a sad year given everything we now know.

Strong shot. I like the choice of excluding the eyes and the negative space creating distance.

i would have put the men on the other side of the picture, so that the red thing would be more in the middle
nice idea and realisation

The pose, coloration and crop all work together to make this image really work. You've identified the population that was impacted very heavily in the outbreak, without identifing a person. Simple, yet very powerful. 8
