A. Researced things that happened in 1968 and came up with a list of the best movies. One was 2001: A Space Odyssey. I looked for more references on the movie and H.A.L. has been referred to in so much since 1968 it is amazing. I knew that it had but if you are curious of the list just look up H.A.L. on Wikipedia.com. H.A.L. has even made it into The Simpsons.
B. Found an image of what I remember the most from a Space Odyssey
C. Recreated by using a printed image I made and cut out a hole in the center.
D. Used an old 28mm minolta manual lens and shined a laser pointer through it. I tried many things changing the apeture on both lenses, (the attached and the not attached one) until I found a collection of settings that didn't add lens flare. I wish I had more light bulb refections on the Minolta lens.
E. Took many pix until I got the light in the center, no flare, no digital reflections
F. Converted from RAW
G. Cropped and did minor adjustments with levels and sat/hue
H. USM and resize for DPC

Probably get totally hammered on this one but, hey, It was the first time I really thought out a set up instead of chasing the cat around at the last minute. It was fun to try to do.

As a sci-fi fan I have to say this is a great topic to pick for that year!

what does it say at the bottom; "Prullenbak"?

I have no idea what this is or what it's supposed to mean, but it does intruige me, I'm staring at it for a couple of minutes now ;)

Ah terrific example...My year too!!:) Can't believe that 20 years later we were made to do a film study of this at 'varsity. The only person in the lecture hall to get excited about the movie was the aged hippie lecturer!! Lol.

I'm out of the loop, but haven't seen the movie. Still, I get the gist of a machine, Hal, being involved. This image comes across as more of a computer generated graphic than a photo. Between that and not knowing the reference well enough to pick up on the detail, it left the image average for me. 5

One of the best movies ever made, but I still can't stay awake for the whole thing.

Great representation of the year. Something we can all relate to, even if we were not quite around then. What is this a shot of, though?

Nice shot. Is the red spot the camera flash?
