All of my options for the "Year You Were Born" sucked and I kept trying to come up with something to get into this low entry challenge. A jokingly asked a few guys at work if they would be willing to dress up like gay men for a photo and they all turned me down but suggested I should shoot a guy in chaps...bare butt. I jokingly asked a female co-worker of mine if she knew any guys willing to shoot bare butt for a photo and she asked one and he said sure...just like that we rushed this shot the day of the challenge and got the results above. I can't say that I've ever felt much less comfortable than I did during this shoot!!!

I know nudes don't score well on DPC so I excpect this one gets hammered. Don't expect to see many more male nudes either. LOL

I don't find this photo offensive. I actually think its very clever. I do think that a black g-string would have fixed that certain little problem without taking away from it and a wax job would have cleaned it up nicely.

I just listened to your podcast with Judi and just wanted to let you I really like this photo. After looking at all the death shots I'll take nudity any day!! Haha! Be nice to see more male forms like this. Great work and bravo for trying something new!

I didn't vote in this challenge but I did view quite a few images. I now wish I had. I could have given you the score this shot deserves. To be honest I am not a fan of nudes but if done tastefully I give them the score they well deserve. I love this shot 1) because it was B/W 2) focus and lighting is great 3) the composition perfect 4) very creative idea.
I would have given this a 10.

I don't think that it is reasonable for people to be really really offended or be grossed out. TecnoShroom's right... it's only a friggin butt.

However, i do feel that this photograph is overly sterotypical; suggesting a stereotype that does not support what all gay people are like. But for intents and purposes, it's art. And it's cool.

Seems quite a few were offended for some reason by this shot. It's just a butt. Not like it's a Nazi cannibal eating Jesus steak while drowning kittens or anything. He really does need to get himself a padded bicycle seat though. That just looks too painful.

Like it! The cuffs are are great touch. This is a very good B&W shot. You can almost feel the leather (and that's all I'm touching :)

So I was scrolling through the entries at work, and just as I clicked the arrow and landed on this one, my co-worker turned around to talk to me. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING AT?"

Yeah, that was embarrassing.

Hello Robert Mappelthorpe. This is a very strong photo technically, and I admire the fact that you are willing to take a risk like this.

The inside of the legs blended into the background, though you were able (mostly) to keep that from happening throughout the rest of the subject. Very inventive and uh. . . daring shot.

Plus points - Level of light, simplicity, handcuffs a good touch.
Minus point - It's someone's back side.
