this is a great shot on its own but I just can't help wondering what it would look like if you had taken it at night so the boat was heading from light to dark. normally you don't want your subject so close to and moving out of your photos but in this case thats just what you want, well done 8

Very nice symbolism, would have liked to see our subject appear more death-like, but I imagine you were being opportunistic here. The water has a very nice texture & pattern & I love how it all fades up & away -- 8 -- |

Good idea and it comes over well in b/w. The fading into the white distance is another good touch. |

A little off center, but also not a rule of thirds composition. I'm a little confused about the strategy, it makes me feel off balance. |

Very good idea, but I can't find a point of sharpness in this photo. |

Beautiful subject, great composition but over exposed! Bugger. |

very original idea and I do get the boat going into the light but I think it is a little too bright, sorry |

the dark bottom and light top, and the ripples in the water are awesome. the ferryman could've been a bit more sharp for me |

What I like: the wonderful textured, gradient from black to white. That does a wonderful job drawing my eye right to the subject and beyond into his infinite future. Buuuttt... the subject feels less sharp than he ought to be. There is also very little detail in the shadows. Not a serious downfall given the type of image, high-contrast works, but I just feel like there could be a bit more technical clarity. It doesn't give me an immidiate sence of death, but I guess that just gives me a chance to read into it more. Well done overall! 8o) |

I'm trying to look broadly, as to how this fits into the challenge. I guess I really don't care, as I love this image. The high contrast and use of negative space is great. I'll leave it up to others' interpretation and give it an 8. |

Like crossing the river styx. Very evocative image. The high contrast and the composition are really powerful. |

Wonderful emotive. So far the most poignant in this challenge. |

Very nice, I know it would have been hard to reverse the lighting so he was rowing into blackness, may be beyond the challenge rules though. Still, I definately get the feel of this. Nice. |

I hope people are familiar with the concept of a ferryman in the afterlife. I could imagine this image would seem not to fit the challenge to some but i think that it does, and I like the way you have portrayed it. |
