 My and my friend Erling went out the other night and tried to capture some
Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) since the forecast was favorable. We begun our journey by going to Thingvellir national park where this picture was shot. I had a chance to use my 400D for the first time in long exposures and it was a bliss compared to the 350D. When we stepped out of the car there was no action in the sky, 5 minutes later we were bathed in green limelight :)

Went to another location that evening and there I shot the second picture of the composition (lower half). I blended the two using photoshop and ran once through neat image.

Both images were post processed as follows: Convert to jpeg using Canon DPP, opened in photoshop, high pass filter sharpening, hue-sat, curves, resized and reduced the noise using NeatImage.

Updated: flipped horizontal to get a better lead-in-line.

Hope this works out better than the last couple of entries I sent in :)

Hehe, was there around midnight, my shot was taken 23:40. Anyway, congrats on the top 10, personal best and first (notice I say "first", not "only") 7+ score :)

Larus, no we weren't driving a red jeep, and judging by your picture you must have been in Þingvellir at another time that night, the activity in the sky is like crazy compared to what we saw! ;)

Wait a minute... I saw a couple of photodorks in a red jeep taking pictures when I was over at Thingvellir, that wouldn´t have happened to be you and Erling?
