I work in the IT division for a major health care provider here in Washington State. I figured the keyboard is the most basic element of my job. My keyboard is illuminated slightly from beneath so I opened up my pc case which has a fan in the back of the same color and set the shutter for 30 seconds. After 15 seconds of exposure I put my hands in for the last 15 seconds. I cloned out two red lights on the keyboard, adjusted the backlighting and fill flash. I think some will find the clutter on the desk distracting but it definitely is indicative of a computer geeks desk. And since I am so new to photography I am pretty happy with the picture no matter where I place.

LOL, well when you're a noob and think you've made a great image, then suddenly a few people point the obvious: The monitor is off! Actually I thought about that and didn't think that with my lack of knowledge that I would be able to have it glow without it being blown out. Well at least I learned something and didn't get any 1's or 2's and 1 "10" (thanks papagei!)

I am a sucjer for any images toned or colored in blue so you have won me over with this image that for sure. I also like the ghostly feeling that you have captured so well. In all a very pleasing image here.....

Hey this is a really cool and inventive shot! I disagree that you need the monitor on - in fact, it's creepier off! Maybe the ghost can see what's going on - portal to another dimension or somesuch. You got a decent score and your commenters loved the shot. The only thing I might have done would be to trim a little off of the left side. That would get rid of a little 'dead space', haha.

Hello from the Critique club, my name is Jon Rowe, and i will be looking at your image this evening :)

Composition/Lighting : this is a very interesting image. i like it a lot. it really has a lot of potential. i think the composition works, and the cluttered background truly shows the life of an IT specialist. i've worked in computer repair / IT for 6 years now, and this looks like my desk :D i think the monitor should definitely be on, w/ maybe a blue screen to fit the rest of the image, and might have given some additional fill light from behind. lighting is on, but maybe a slightly faster shutter speed to get rid of those blown highlights on the right side.

Challenge : i think this fits the challenge quite nicely. it really caught my eye when voting b/c i can relate to it, and i think it shows how busy the profession is, wether it's helping out a customer or killing time on DPC between jobs :D very well done.

Conclusion : composition, lighting, all is well done. just a few things w/ blowouts here and there, but other than that well done. very nice score on this, and as you continue to enter more challenges, i think the potential you have here will prove well for you, and you'll continue to grow as a photographer. very nice job!

Keep on shootin!

Good luck on your future challenges:)

This is a really neat image, only I think maybe a slight glow from the monitor would be nice to make us belive it is on. But its very nice overall.
