The concept was to do a narrow-DOF portrait, a close headshot. I shot it with the 50/1.4 @ f/2.0.
The shot was lit with overcast daylight through a window at subject's right and a skylight above and forward. Fill light from Canon 580EX, bounced off a 42" Stroboframe reflector (white). The backdrop is our living room wall.
There's incredibly little editing on this shot after RAW conversion. The biggest thing is the added vignette. This is the full frame shot, no cropping. We'll probably submit a crop of this for the actual yearbook photo.

Looking at it again, I just realize that the OOF hiar on the left shoulder is the only thing i find slightly distracting. It sort of disrupts the flow.

This is a great portrait. I like the colors in it. I think I prefer this one over the toned one, though both are good. I also think that the OOF chin/mouth works because it emphasizes the eyes. It gives the photo a real definite focus point. If it were any softer it wouldnt work.

I like that the right (her left) side of her face is oof, but I'd have to agree that I'd like a little more in focus chin.

beautiful colors, love the darkened edges and she looks like a natural born model : )

Beautiful job! Great colors and genuine look from her... lovely girl... I would rather see her whole face sharp, with the vignette only on the rest... again... good job!

I agree with Rex, the OOF chin kind of detracts. Along with that would be the angle of the head and the shallow DOF make the head look like it's "floating" apart from the body.

The lighting and crop are great. It also helps you have a cute daughter. *grin*

It appears her mouth and chin are slightly out of focus. Which I see is intentional. I think it is an excellent portrait but feel that the whole face should be in focus.

Nice lighting.

As for a crop I think it is fine the way it is.
