Taken at the same time as my "Sky" entry, just rotated a bit to the right and down for this shot.

Yeah, I know what you are thinking, I am just submitting this in hopes for a high score. Well honestly I am not, I actually feel a bit bad about it but this month has been kindof busy, only photography I have been doing is kids photo for christmas cards, two weddings and then photos specifically for DPC. There was no way I was going to sit out a free study though as I love those so I had to submit something. That means that I either had to submit another shot of Gummi in the graveyard, my wife with mud, another of Ingibjörg eating chocolate and so forth. I thought it at least better to submit this as it COULD have been shot by someone else instead of using a photo with the same model that was 100% taken by me.

Besides, I am currently exploring nighttime photography and these are the biggest learning experiences with me, these nightshots and my "new thing" so bear with me. Not expecting a high score, would be extatic if this just scored over my average and got at least 1 favorite.

As for post processing, was similar to the other shot, standard raw conversion, shadow/highlights, dodge/burn was a bit stronger though this time, a little healing brush and curves for contrast and of course sharpened after resizing.

I'll see your 'Icelandic aurora' and raise you one 'Rural India' ;-)

Excellent image my friend, though not quite up there with some of your previous aurora shots. I think you just overdid the contrast a little (for me anyway).

I didn't get to vote on this one, but I love it! The aurora is great, but with orion standing next to it, pure magic!

This is as stunning shot. The depth and vibrancy of the colors is amazing. It has a solid composition, with objects of interest in both the fore and backgrounds, and is well balanced. To really kick it over the top, you've captured Orion right next to the lights, which helps ground the image and increase its appeal even more. This is one of those shots that deserves about a twelve, if the scale went that high. 10

Congratulations, you have mastered the aurora photograph! You have helped to inspire DPC to create a wave of copy-cat photographs and similar efforts of long-exposure star-scapes. You have scored well and set a trend. Your new challenge: create another movement, abandon this new encarnation of the 'water-drop, selective de-sat, veiled face' and keep our front page fresh and unexpected. Good luck to you this week, and all other weeks. An eye and mind such as this should not need luck, but I wish it upon you all the same.

Wow. Awesome. The composition is made by the rocky outcrop at bottom. Great sense of how to compose the image.

Great, the aurora seems to be very low, almost touching the mountains in the horizon

Brilliant! Obviously NOT taken at the equator NOR the southern hemisphere.
I especially appreciate the inclusion of the constellation of Orion to the right.

I'm always impressed with these! I think this deserves a 10 simple because of what you had to do to get the shot! But even so, it is OUTSTANDING! I would love to get the chance to do this some day!

Curse you and your magic northern latitude...or longitude what ever... anyway another dang beautiful photo that makes me jealous and curse the very camera that I use. I say stuff like "why can't you do that?" "show me the green swirls baby!" and "come on camer just give me one good shot" Then when I upload them I get crooked photos of lameness.

I have already said this once this challenge...

You suck...good luck...I hate you...10

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What else can you say. I never tire of seeing these spectacular displays of nature! I hope someday in my lifetime I can see one for myself and have my own photo. In the meantime, I truly enjoy the privilege of getting to see it thru you :)
