Challenge: Fireworks II (Advanced Editing V*)
Collection: Challenges 2007
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Location: Wiesbaden, Germany
Date: Jan 1, 2007
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/50
Date Uploaded: Jan 1, 2007

Every man, woman, and child in Germany sets off fireworks on New Year's Eve - even in the rain. I wandered around a bit today and the remnants of the celebration were plentiful in some locations.

Probably DNMC.

Post processing - don't have my notes with me but it's pretty much a crop and some sharpening. No blur was added or subtracted if I recall.

Nice idea. :) I like the three angular sections of this photo, and all the textury stuff crossing those angles in various places. Nice colour... kinda lonely feeling too. Very nice.

Melethis, I'm sorry, I didn't score this very high. I'm afraid it brought that dreadful dead cat photo immediately to my mind, and I was instantly turned off. Not your fault, my dear. It's well done and a good OOB entry.

I loved this photo. It was a nice change from all the flashy lights. The textures of it all are fabulous!

Deb, this is really a nice shot and you should definitely receive the OOBIE for this one. I can almost smell the burnt powder just looking at this.

This is great! A refreshing change from the "normal" shots. And look at that average vote from commenters! :)

Sheeez, why didn't you just go along with all the other lemmings and do the same exact thing. (just a little sarcasm to start the morning out)

I thought this was great and I can't believe it got voted this low. Based on your comments, at least you knew what you were in for. Anyways, you did good, be proud!

That's certainly a different take on the subject of fireworks. Way to be different!

Pretty out of the box with this one. Personally I think it works better with a much tighter crop, about half way down the existing shot. 6

Well this certainly stands out and pretty refreshing take on the challenge, gave it a 7, I really like the composition and DOF.

Yes, a differnet direction on the challenge...and a very well done photo to boot. Good composition and use of DOF. Very nice photograph!

An interesting take on the subject. Well executed too; I like the way you have included the ridge of the kerb to provide context.

The narrow DOF looks a little like it was post-processed in...

I really like the textures. Not sure the shallow dof was needed since the OOF sections rob the image of the rest of the textures.

Unique approach, well executed. Propably too out-of-the-box for many voters, but I rather enjoy the change from the usual. Well done.

I like it. It̢۪s a bold entry and a creative perspective for the challenge. Good narrow depth of field and placement of the subject. 8
