Yes, this was in my portfolio and had a lot of views and more favorites than any non-challenge picture I've posted. Is it my best picture from 2006? I don't know - probably not. But I do like it and I didn't submit it in the Free Study for that month and wondered how it would have done. In a Best of 2006 it'll probably go largely unnoticed - it's rather quiet - but that's fine by me.

Taken on the way to the San Antonio/Austin Get Together in October.

Anothe good one I remember from best of06. Judy(jutilda) has a similar shot in her porfolio. The are all watching the bird down below. Probably wondering who will be the next to fly.

I gave this a 7 during the challenge, my only fault is that I'd like a little more colour... too much white for me. The minimalism is great however. (WARNING: Comment could be indecisive).

composition is great! my eyes go from left to right to bottom. very underrated.

usully you'd think b/w works in images like this, but the blue sky and the brown tones in the birds are too good to leave out.

By the way Deb, I went back and looked and I gave this a 7. I think this is a VERY underrated shot.

This is one of the best "bird on a wire" photos I have seen. What makes it is the two interactive birds which helps fill in the negative space so common in this type of photo. I also like the gradual background color transition, it really concides with the line nicely. I also like the fact of the one brown bird. It is the "different" things in this often photographed idea that make this one a winner. A terrific photo.

5.8????!!! Absolutely rediculous! (Rowan is on my lap and she totally agrees)! This shot is a work of art as your commenters observed. I'm just shaking my head woman!

the sky color changes from blue to white! and one of the birds is brown while others are grey. absolutely stunning and of course very very underrated:(

great shot, I gave you a 9, and I hadn't seen it in your portfolio! I think one of the things I liked so much was the sky, that gently rolled from a light cyan to white without feeling blown out.

You know, I could TOTALLY see this on a greeting card. Maybe it isn't technically "perfect" so I'd probably clone out the bird that's flying (the top one) and the bird it's in front of, and just have the bird flying at the bottom... but yeah. Seems to me very sellable.

Awesome composition! The colors are fantastic too.
The concept reminds me of peroty's recent photo with birds and a wire. I think I really like the concept because... hm. I like birds (I wish I could fly) but I see a lot of shots with just a bird flying, and a sky for background. Having the wire in there gives some really great context and makes for a more unique image.

Yep, I agree with the wire-position. Still gave this shot a 7 though, nice piece.

Another terrific bird shot, Deb, and another one I can't believe didn't crack 6. My only suggestion, and it's only relevant if you have the pixels, is to try it with the wire just a smidge lower. It seems a bit tight up there.

Simple, elegant and understated. A nice contrast from some of the oversaturated images we see lately. Thank you

I like the composition with that extra bird way down at the bottom. It is kind of quirky and I think it really makes the shot. Very nicely seen. 7 from me.

I have a feeling I would love this without the birds in flight - just a whole lot of negative space to highlight the main area of interest. Still, the different coloured birds (the brown one especially) and the different poses make for a very pleasing shot.

I like the bird flying off. But, the picture seems to boring to me.

I adore this shot. I'm a real sucker for images with strong negative space and this shot has it. Nice gradient in the sky (also a sucker for gradients) and obviously the birds in flight make this shot something special. Not sure about the gray border but who cares...back to bump you up to 9 and adding to favorites.

Placement of the birds is great. A bit noisy and there are sharpening halos around the birds. Overall impression is strong.

a shot a second later would have been great with the top bird in flight not blocking the other birds
