Just stumbled across this image, it is quite beautiful! Love the lighting (lower sun?) and vibrant colors... plus I just like the subject -- I've never seen such a cute bird with such a big head :-) |

I love these birds - so similar to the kingfishers in South Africa. Well composed photograph with perfect DOF. |

A lovely photo but I feel the colour saturation is slightly 'unreal' and a catchlight created by fill in flash would have brightened the eye a little. |

the color of the light is appealing in this, detail is pleasant, & I like what you did w/the background...9 |

These birds are so darned cute and love their name.
This image could have done a lot better in my opinion, had the background not been so harsh and high in contrast, and some detail brought out of the eye.
I played a little with it in Photoshop just out of curiosity and applied a brown toned black & white layer to the image overall, did edit, fade, and watched until I was able to get a slightly toned, but desaturated look to the background, then erased back in the bird and the main branch. I did a strong USM sharpening of the bird and main branch and adjusted the levels in the eye , then added some black to the reds (selective colors adjustments)in the branch.
Feel free to PM me for a URL where I put it (in my workshop folder). |

I would have cropped the bottom part out. I would have loved to see more details of that beautiful bird. |

Could use some dodging around the eye and face, and some darkening of the bright background areas.
Nice catch! |

BG hightlights are really bright, closer crop might help. |
