I took this photo during nautical twilight (6:23 AM, 50 minutes prior to sunrise) at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. On the background you can see the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and US Capitol.

I did very little editing to the original shot (added contrast and color balance).

Maybe a bit of white/color balance would have improved this image - so that the highlights on the statue, and bands of the flag are white - rather than the orange colour of the tungsten lighting.

beautifully observed. but, why, oh, WHY, didn't you go on and crop out the lightpole on the right? if you were worried about print ratio, you still had some room to crop, and you could have filled in with a black border. or you could have simply cloned it out. hold you hand up over it, and you'll see what a difference it makes. other than than, this is large print quality. excellent shot.

Love the lighting!!

Wonder if fill flash would have improved this shot

Very, very nice. Love the light on the statue and the inclusion of the Washington monument. If you can, you may want to clone out the lights on the pole on the right - then print this - it's a keeper.

Such great colors! I love the lack of detail in the statue, but there is a little bit of light giving a bit of detail. Just the right amount.

Nice shot. I like the reflection on the statue. It really adds to the whole setting. I also like the blending of the colors in the sky. Nice job. 7

good photo, tighter crop would make this photo better ... just my opinion

The sunset colors warm the night time image....

this is very nice. the hint of color is great. it's too bad that the flag was not blowing. my only suggestions would be to knock out the red light at the top of the washington monument and get rid of the tall light post on the right. they detract from the scene.

Beautiful capture of this but I do find the lights to the left a little distracting (just my humble opinion)

That's one extremely nicely executed photo.

I've always found that to be an amusing scene... In my mind it's always sub-titled 'or How Many Americans Does it Take to Put a Pole into the Ground?'... All in good fun...

Very good compositon. Love the colors in the horizon.
