This is my first shot at still life. I decided to go for a somewhat classic look with the pear shaped lute, lamp and of course pear shaped pears. The only thing that bothers me about this is the flower that you can see at the far right in the shadow. I didn't notice it until after and I only had three minutes to submit it before the cutoff time for the challenge. Anyways, any comments are welcome. Thanks!

We should get together sometime and bring our instruments to life, rather than have them stay still. Nice shot. 5.7 is a very respectable score, indeed.

Get that blue lamp out! You've got such nice earth tones--browns, yellows, soft pinks, greens--contrasted delicately by white lace...and then you introduce blue. Too much! Keep in mind the roles that color plays in your photos.

quite a nice old fashioned feel to this, light on the pears andwood of lute and table are very nice..

Nice material and setup for a still life. I think the whole neck of the mandolin should have been in it. Perhaps this might have looked more professional with a better home studio setup (backdrop over background and table.)

I like the setup and the lighting is nice. However the image does look a little soft to me and the light drop off to the right hand side I am unsure about.

Where does one get a lute these days?

Like the idea and subject manner, improvements could have been made to the draping of the lace and the background which is rather bland.

Nice idea, but I'm not comfortable with the lighting. I'm not sure why though.

needs to either look more studio or more natural. for instance, putting the items on a solid background and fitting them all in without the distractions along the right side would make it more staged/studio... the white lace is almost overexposed, and having them against the greyish wall doesn't really help.. too many competing elements.. simplify
