The highlights in this shot are rather blown out and the shadows are to dark making it hard to see any real detail. Taken during a different time of day with more cooperative light would probably have helped here.

In an unfortunate coincidence, I just heard a news report about massive vandalism of rare cave formations in Redwood and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Good job handling a tricky lighting situation.

If they could only talk, heh? This is a nice shot overall, I like the way the rocks draw you in from the top and take you through the shot and I like the person sitting there in quiet reflection, thinking of the past and showing respect. The dark corner in the bottom right is a bit distracting, a slightly tighter crop perhaps? And the shadows from behind are a good play on the light. I started at a 7 but am moving to an 8

I'm a little confused at where I should focus my attention. I'm guessing this is some kind of rock shelter archeological site?

The orange and blue add an interesting accent that lifts this image

Great to have that bright orage hat, it really stands out. I understand the reverence for geology - but the stone is so complex in the photo it is hard for your eye to know where to look. Perhaps a closer composition would work better?
