Technicals: Excellent focus and DOF. The image is crisp and sharp. The sky has a tiny gradient which is good. Blown sky in B&W isn't the end of the world anyway. The B&W conversion is well done.
The feel: I think I'm going to say this a lot on my Street Photog comments. Street photography should do one of a few things: 1) capture the human condition either through an interesting scene or through the facial expressions captured in an everyday occurance. 2) capture nostalgia 3) capture an interesting geometric pattern (meaning the photo has abstract qualitites) which rises above the photo as a whole. Your shot, without people, cannot do the first. The snow and the light do give some nostalgic feelings and you do have the leading lines you mentioned (although they don't technically "lead" to anything).
The game: I gave this a 6 because you did capture some of 2 and 3. (although when voting I didn't go down my checklist which I only came up with for the purposes of these comments) I think people were looking for people, that's probably a large part of the 45 4s you got. |

I prefer black and white photography so you get my interest right off the bat. Couple issues with the shot that held it back. First, it is over sharpened. The little points showing up in the bricks and the jaggy along the edge of the wall lamp are signs of this. I would ease up a bit on the sharpening. Yes, in challenges people expect retina slashing sharpness, but there is a line there that you still don't want to cross.
Second thing is the composition. I do like the details of the wall and the leading lines. However everytime I look at this photo my eyes immediately move to the right side and my mind says 'wheres the rest of the photo'. I think a landscape crop would have worked better here as it would have presented a good chunk of the street along with the wall. Your eyes are naturally drawn to the brightest spot in the image and here that is the sky above the street, so you want to get something in that section of the photo for the eyes to feed on.
Really nice tones. Good job on the BW conversion. |

I really like this photo so much. I was afraid it might get voted down because of there not being any people in it :( But it is really a nice photo!

sorry i am going to bump down for the following reason.
I think other than this being a street there is little to connect this with "street photography" I have mentioned on a few comments already that i think street photography should relate a story. This really has no story at all. also there is no point of interest, nothing to draw me into the scene.
Please keep trying as street photography is great once you get what it is about. |

The angle on the building doesn't let you know anything about the building so nothing to look at there. A trash can (I think) is in the street then some street lights an cars. This photo doesn't help me image anything about it, nothing attracts my eye. |

Really nice sharpness and clarity. I especially like the angle you took on this shot. Very nicely composed. Well done. |

I really love this street photo. I wish it had a person/people in it for "the" perfect street photography photo -- but I really like it anyway! I love the way you have processed it in a black and white -- or dark sepia. The contrast with the white trim and the snow makes it looks so clean while still looking very urban. |
