 I feel I have come a long way since my first blue ribbon back in November '05. DPC is a huge part of that. I have always wanted to go back and shoot this picture again for a few reasons:

A) I shot JPG back then. (yuk)
B) I blew the sky out on the old one.
C) I shot it with the 300D
D) I think my processing skills are better.

So, once again, I found a morning where I could get up at 4:45AM and drive out to catch the dawn at Ecola State Park. I feel a bit bad about having it be a redo of a previous ribbon winner, but I think lots of the top ribbon earners on this site have at least one example of a similar shot entered twice. I'm not doing it just to go for another ribbon (although I wouldn't mind if it won), but rather to see what I could do with the shot a second time around.

I managed to catch about 5 minutes of pink in the sky. The tide was higher than I expected and so I had to shoot from a rock probably 6 feet above the water instead of 2 feet. That accounts for the perspective difference. I cropped differently to include more sky as well. I'm not sure if that's better or worse, but at least there is detail there instead of blown white.

wow, very nice! I didn't think the color of the sky and the water could be that color at the same time. Wish it were a little sharper, especially around the hills, but all in all I think this will score very high. good luck.
